A turn of the year, in the middle of 2003, Singapore finally received her My Little Ponies at the beginning of August to coincide with our National Day! It was indeed something for us Singaporeans to cheer about as this year, more than 15 ponies were sold in stores throughout the country.

The theme was "Celebration" that was all about sparkle and glitter, just like fireworks! As usual, the ponies came in all colours of the rainbow, shading from the cliche pink to the obscure choices of orange and green. However, different from their predecessors, the 2003 ponies came mostly with ingrained glitters in their bodies (except white ponies) that gave them a beautiful pearly glint, now widely termed as "glittery bodies" by collectors.

Originally, the pony line was meant to have 8 single ponies with 2 playsets in the US - as was stated on Hasbro's website, while the UK reported 12 ponies for the year. It seemed that the response for them was so good that Hasbro had decided to release more ponies than expected, with collectors spotting ponies for what said to be for the year 2004. In just a matter of a semester, the pony line just boomed from a starting number of about 10 to about 35 different pony characters worldwide!

As for Singapore, we had followed the US line more closely, with majority of our ponies having "pony points" on their packaging. The only exception so far was Meadowbrook with her Beautiful Bloom Shop that was sold in European packaging. We share large similarities with Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia. It also seems like we sometimes take our stocks from Hasbro Malaysia because some of our ponies have the Hasbro Malaysia sticker at the bottom.

Disappointing as it was, Singapore didn't receive the Minty, Sparkleworks, Celebration Salon (UK: Lovely Locks Salon) with Amberlocks or the Tea Party like Australia did. Malaysia might have gotten them since they're a bigger market, and it would be fantastic if they did, because we could just cross over to Johor Bahru to buy them. This is a reflection of the past for Singapore, because as usual, we never receive every single pony that was available to the International market.
